A joint starts with marijuana flower which is going to be available in Louisiana starting in 2022. It is raw marijuana that is the typical buds that you would picture when thinking of cannabis. You need marijuana flower to roll a joint.

Knowing how to roll a joint is part of “marijuana 101” and an important key in consuming marijuana flower. Here is a step by step guide on how to roll a joint so you’re ready when marijuana flower becomes available at Louisiana dispensaries.
But first, you’re going to need some supplies! You’re first going to need raw marijuana flower, rolling papers, and a filter (also known as a crutch). Next you’ll need a marijuana grinder and either a pen or a similar shaped item which will be used to pack the marijuana into the joint.
How to Roll a Joint:
1. Grind the marijuana flower
The first step in rolling a joint is to grind down the marijuana flower so that it can be packed into the joint. If your marijuana flower is dried properly, it will grind easily. You can “grind” it with your hands but this will make your hands sticky which will later cause your fingers to stick to the rolling paper. Since we want to make this easy, make sure you pick up a grinder!
2. Add a filter
A filter is also known as a crutch or a tip in the marijuana world. You can buy a filter online, at your local smoke shop and they often come with the rolling paper too. If you don’t have any handy, you can make it yourself easily out of thin cardboard or even a business card.
You can begin by making an accordion-like shape with the cardboard. You can then roll the cardboard into the size of how thick you want your joint to be. This will help keep the tiny pieces of marijuana that you ground up from being inhaled when you smoke.
3. Fill the joint with the marijuana
Next, move onto the rolling paper. You can fill the paper with the marijuana that you ground and add the filter to the end. You can fill the paper with as much or as little raw marijuana flower as you desire. Then, shape the joint with your fingers.
4. Pack & roll your joint
Now that the joint is filled with your marijuana flower, it is time to roll your joint. You can pinch the paper with your fingers and roll it together in order to pack the marijuana down into the final cone-like shape.
This is an important step! Next, you can tuck one side of the paper into the roll, roll it up and then use the other side of the paper to stick down one side of the joint. You can do this by using a little bit of moisture. The most common way is to lightly lick the edge and stick it down the side.
5. Finish and enjoy!
Lastly, to finish making your joint, you can pack the joint to make sure it is even and will burn evenly too. You can stick a pen or a pen-shaped object into the joint to pack the marijuana down. Then you can finish the joint by twisting the end.
