New Marijuana Growing Facilities Coming to LA through Southern and LSU AgCenters

Louisiana Medical Marijuana Producer Expanding to Ruston

While Louisiana only allows two medical marijuana growers, Southern University’s AgCenter and LSU’s AgCenter, the universities have partnered with private companies to introduce growing facilities to the state.

Patients who are excitedly waiting for smokable cannabis flower to be available from these facilities in 2022 have been applying for medical marijuana cards in Louisiana by the hundreds.

With the recent expansion of Good Day Farm from Baton Rouge to Ruston, Louisiana, production of cannabis plants is expected to increase exponentially in 2022.

Good Day Farm Marijuana Producer to Move to Ruston, Louisiana

Good Day Farm, a private medical marijuana company, has partnered with LSU’s AgCenter to create a 225,000 square foot facility in Ruston, Louisiana, with intentions to move its current operations from Baton Rouge.

The company is expecting to officially begin transporting cannabis plants from their Baton Rouge facility into the new warehouse in October, after the company received approval from state and local officials.

Moving to Ruston Industrial Park, the new facility will be the first above Interstate 10 and the company plans to create 50 new jobs at the site, with the expectation of as many as 250 jobs once the market becomes more viable in Louisiana.

Production Facility in Ruston to Produce High Volume Cannabis Products

Good Day Farm is expecting to eventually produce over 5,000 pounds of cannabis products per month, exceeding the estimated statewide demand for cannabis volume.

Looking to capture around 2% of the cannabis market in Louisiana, the decision to move operations from Baton Rouge to a newer and larger facility in Ruston solidifies the company’s decision to expand in the Southern cannabis market.

With an expected high demand for smokable cannabis flower starting in January of 2022, cultivators are ramping up production to meet the probable demands of patients with medical marijuana cards looking for smokable flower.

With the location in Baton Rouge remaining operational until the new facility is open, eventually the old location will become the LSU AGCenter’s cannabis research facility, studying and breeding different genetics of cannabis plants.

Cannabis Producers Expanding to Meet Demands for Smokable Cannabis Flower

The new facility from Good Day Farm, only 30 miles from the Arkansas border, represents a growing interest from cultivators and patients alike to produce high quality cannabis flower.

After the passage of HB391, all 9 dispensaries will sell raw cannabis flower, offering a new product line for patients shopping at Louisiana dispensaries. Previously, only processed products such as tinctures, salves, and edibles were allowed.

Patients with medical marijuana cards will be allowed to purchase up to 2.5 ounces of raw smokable cannabis every 14 days.

Now that raw cannabis flower will be sold in Louisiana dispensaries, cultivators are working double time to introduce the new products into the market in 2022, and patients are eagerly awaiting the upcoming strains that the facilities will produce.
