How to Get Medical Marijuana Delivery in Louisiana

Louisiana offers a comprehensive medical marijuana program, with open access to medical marijuana cards for patients with any symptom a doctor believes medical marijuana could benefit.

And although there are currently only two cultivators and 12 pharmacies, cannabis products are available at Louisiana pharmacies. Another benefit for Louisiana’s more accessible approach with cannabis is the ordering process. In Louisiana, you can order medical cannabis entirely online, and even have it delivered!

In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about medical marijuana delivery in Louisiana, and how to get your cannabis delivered right to your door!

Getting Medical Cannabis Delivery in Louisiana

How to Get Cannabis Delivered Right to Your Door

Louisiana offers a comprehensive medical marijuana program to qualified patients, with online ordering and even delivery as an option.

Louisiana pharmacies won’t be delivering your medical cannabis personally, however, you’ll have to use an independent third-party for that. Fortunately, most Louisiana pharmacies that are approved to sell cannabis work with delivery services so you can process your order directly from the pharmacy website.

There are a few things to consider when getting your cannabis delivered as it might not be the best option for everyone.

Ordering Medical Marijuana Online for Delivery in Louisiana

To get your medical marijuana delivered in Louisiana, you’ll need to find a pharmacy near you with cannabis delivery as an option and plan to process an online order.

Several things will impact whether you’ll be able to get cannabis delivery, such as your proximity to the pharmacy, whether your location is covered by the delivery service or not, and if the delivery service is available in a timely manner.

It’s important to note that when you process an online order for medical marijuana in Louisiana, you’ll pay additional processing fees and the transaction will be processed as an ATM charge, which can add additional fees from your bank.

You’ll also need to think about the delivery fee, as well as a tip for the driver. With medical marijuana prices in Louisiana already high, these additional fees can stack up significantly, making a trip to the pharmacy a more viable option for some patients.

How to Order Cannabis Delivery in Louisiana

Order Cannabis Within Reasonable Timeframes

To get cannabis delivery in Louisiana, all you need to do is visit the pharmacy’s website, add items to your cart, and select online ordering and delivery when finalizing your order.

It’s best to avoid high traffic times and the delivery service may only operate within certain timeframes, so be sure to determine the best time for your order.

The biggest issue we ran into with the delivery option for medical marijuana in Louisiana was the delivery range. For some pharmacies, even housing that was less than one mile was considered “out of range” for the delivery option, and we’re not sure if this is a bug or if the delivery isn’t fully set up.

It’s probably best to call ahead to determine if your area is eligible for delivery.

Several pharmacies offered free delivery on the payment transaction page of their website, and delivery appears to be available online through most pharmacies.

Getting Medical Cannabis Delivered to Your Door in Louisiana

If your area is covered by the third-party delivery service Waitr, you’ll be able to scan a copy of your medical marijuana card and driver’s license, which the driver will confirm once they reach your address.

Delivery services can take a while, especially if you’re at the far end of the service area. One to three hours wouldn’t be surprising for same-day delivery, and although you may be able to set your order a day out, inventory may not be the same and online orders can’t be amended.

If you’re in immediate need of medical marijuana and can’t physically pick up your cannabis, this might be a viable option, though assigning a caregiver who can legally purchase and possess medical cannabis for you is probably the better (and possibly cheaper) option.

Caregivers can purchase medical marijuana on behalf of registered patients, and you can assign a nurse or family member as a caregiver. Caregivers must fill out a caregiver application with the State and get approved before they can legally act as a caregiver for you.

All in all, medical marijuana can be delivered in Louisiana, though with the program still in its infancy, not all the bugs are worked out just yet. Delivery may be a good option for patients who live close to a pharmacy and don’t want the hassle of going to a location, and there are options available.
