How to Counteract THC: 7 Ways to Sober Up

There are many ways in which you can overdo it when it comes to consuming medical marijuana. Many marijuana consumers can attest to this!

You can overdo it with an edible that you thought wasn’t enough so you took more, or maybe you added just a little too much of your favorite tincture to your smoothie. You could even just be a novice medical marijuana user and not know where your tolerance lies just yet.

The possibilities are endless! But know that once you cross that line, it is possible that you can experience uncomfortable psychoactive effects from THC such as paranoia or anxiety. In other words, you can have a “bad trip.”

Here at Louisiana Marijuana Card, we want to give you all the tools that you need in order to make the best decisions for your health care and overall wellness. We not only are the go-to marijuana card provider in the state but we also want to let you in on some tips on how to consume marijuana in the best way for you.

No one wants to experience an uncomfortable high, especially when you are treating a medical condition. Below are a six ways that you can sober up faster if you accidently overdo it with your medical marijuana:

1. Don’t panic.

Panicking is usually the first thing that people do when they realize they overdid it with their medical marijuana. Sometimes it is hard not to but just keep reminding yourself that you are safe and secure. One of the best things about cannabis is that it always wears off and has no long lasting effects. You cannot overdose on marijuana which should be of comfort to you. Other than being anxious and paranoid, at the end of the day, you are going to be just fine!

2. Try to stay hydrated.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! I will even say it again because it is important. Stay hydrated! Drinking water when you have too much marijuana can help in many ways. Not only does it help get some much needed water in you, it also allows you to focus on a small, simple task. This will help you get out of your head! Drinking water is familiar to the body so it will help ground you back to your normal self.

Remember to not drink anything with alcohol! Alcoholic drinks will increase the THC in the bloodstream which can actually make matters worse.

3. Chew on some black peppercorns.

Although this sounds super random, it is something that actually helps counteract THC! No one is exactly certain as to why but smelling and/or tasting some black peppercorns can help you if you are feeling stuck in your head.

4. Get rest.

One of the best things to do to counteract THC is to just rest it out. Find a nice quiet spot where you feel safe and make a little nest for yourself out of pillows and blankets. Just cozy up in there and take some full deep breaths to help center you. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Focus on your breath and let your body completely relax.

If you can fall asleep that is even better! Some find it hard to sleep after over-consumption, especially if you’re dealing with paranoia or anxiety. If you’re not able to fall asleep just stay comfy and cozy in your little nest until you start feeling better!

5. Take a bath or shower.

Taking a nice shower or running a nice bath for yourself is a great way to help you relax. It is another basic, every day task that can help you feel more like your normal self. Sometimes being around a natural element can help comfort you so being in water can be good for you.

6. Get out in nature.

Unfortunately, our brains don’t have an off switch but we can change up our scenery! If you accidentally consume too much medical marijuana, try getting some fresh air by getting out in nature. You can go for a walk to get your blood pumping. Just make sure you are with someone you trust and in a familiar area such as your neighborhood or favorite park!
