Here at Louisiana Marijuana Card, we know how important it is for Louisiana residents to feel heard, especially when it comes to their medical condition relief. A recent poll conducted by JMC found that a majority of Louisiana residents support legalizing marijuana. In fact over two-thirds of those polled are in support! In 2020, a similar poll was conducted which showed that number at 54%. That is a 13% increase in public opinion in just one year! Relating to this, only 8% of those surveyed believed that marijuana in any form should be fully illegal.
Although these results may seem a little strange for a southern, more conservative state, we know that Louisiana has been making some huge strides in the advancement of marijuana policies in the south. In fact, the three largest cities in the state all passed legislation decriminalizing marijuana. This means that those who are caught carrying small amounts of marijuana will no longer be threatened with jail time but instead be fined and required to do community service.
And of course, we know that Louisiana has a fully functioning medical marijuana program! This program is also further progressed than some as Louisiana is considered an “all condition state.” This means that any debilitating medical condition that a resident may suffer from can be a condition that qualifies for medical marijuana treatment!
Another big finding from this study showed that Louisiana residents support the marijuana plant itself being accessible to medical patients, as of now only oils and tinctures are. In 2020, 68% of the respondents were in support of the marijuana plant being permissible which jumped to 75% in this year's poll. This shows that Louisiana citizens are open to medical marijuana patients being able to access products at pharmacies such as marijuana flower or buds.
Two-thirds of those surveyed also shared that they would be more likely to support a candidate for office that wanted to reform Louisiana’s marijuana laws. A statement like this, shows the positive place that Louisiana’s marijuana laws and views truly are!
