5 Medicinal Benefits of Using CBD

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one out of the 100+ cannabinoids that is found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, CBD lacks the psychoactive effects and will not produce a ‘high’ that is often associated with using marijuana. CBD is a great option for individuals who are looking to alleviate common ailments without the ‘buzz’ as it offers a wide range of medicinal benefits. Let’s take a look at a few ways it can help.

What Are The Benefits Of CBD Oil?

1. Reduce Pain and Inflammation

Research has shown that CBD interacts with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). When CBD is consumed, it binds to receptor sites throughout our body. The response then creates pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects that help with managing pain.

CBD can come in many forms such as oil and in edible form including gummies and chocolate. But CBD can also come in a topical form which can be applied directly to the problem area for localized relief.

2. Help Relieve Anxiety

Anxiety is the most common mental illness in the United States as it affects 40 million adults over the age of 18 every year. The calming properties of CBD can not only help relieve anxiety alone, but can be beneficial for providing relief for additional types of anxiety disorders such as PTSD, panic disorder, social anxiety and OCD.

3. Improve Sleep

If you have trouble falling or staying asleep, CBD could have the potential to help you get a good night’s rest. As discussed above, CBD can be helpful for managing anxiety. If anxiety is a contributing factor to an individual's sleeping problem, using CBD could be beneficial to help ease the mind and help with falling asleep faster. In a study conducted by the Permanente Journal, it showed that out of 72 adults who consumed CBD on a regular basis, 79.2% of them had lower anxiety and 66.7% had improved sleep scores just after the first month of usage.

4. Skin Conditions

Due to it’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, CBD can potentially help improve a number of skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and itchy skin. CBD could also be effective in helping to reduce and fight acne as it helps decrease the production of sebum in the skin. 5. Anti-Seizure

Some studies have shown promising evidence that CBD can help with seizures associated with epilepsy. In 2016, a study was conducted with 214 individuals who suffered from epilepsy. During the study, participants added an oral dose between 2 to 5mg of CBD every day to their existing epilepsy medications and it was monitored for 12 weeks. The results showed that participants experienced 36.5% fewer seizures per month.

Overall, CBD shows promising effects to help alleviate specific symptoms, especially due to its lack of euphoric cognitive effects and possible lower potential of experiencing side effects compared to traditional medications.
