Incorporating Marijuana Into Your Favorite Holiday Recipes

The holiday season is here, and one of the best parts of the holidays has always been the food that comes with it! Every family has their traditions, and recipes are certainly part of that when it comes to the holidays.

When people think of edibles, they normally think of brownies and cookies, but any dish can be transformed into a cannabis treat! Not only recipes that require baking but also cooking recipes could benefit with a little help from THC!

There really are so many ways to add cannabis to recipes, but one of the easiest and most popular ways is to make your own cannabis-infused oil. Cannabis oil is a bit more popular than cannabutter because it is cheaper and easier to make.

You can add your cannabis-infused oil directly into any recipe whether you use it to cook vegetables or bake a cake with! The possibilities are endless.

Which Oil Should I Use?

There are a few things to consider when gathering your ingredients for cannabis-infused oil. First, and arguably most important, is which kind of oil you will use. There are so many types of cooking oils from canola to avocado and coconut. So which is the best to use?

It depends on the recipe you are making entirely. Avocado oil is extremely healthy and a great option always. Coconut oil is also healthy, but its strong taste could become an issue when using it for cooking, whereas a coconut taste could be perfect for cupcakes.

Many people recommend starting off using olive oil because of its high quality fats and antioxidants. It also does not have a very strong taste, so it can be used for both cooking and baking styles.

Choosing the Best Strain of Cannabis

Another thing to consider is the type of cannabis you will want to use for your oil. This is very important as well. Most experts say that it is best to use flower that is very fragrant as it probably contains good-tasting terpenes.

As far as CBD THC ratios, everybody is different, and you should use what you think is best. You can experiment with this and use different types of cannabis in different batches to figure out what you like most.

Also, pick a strain that is known for producing the desired effect. If you want edibles that will make you tired and fix your sleep schedule, choose an indica strain. If you want to focus better or feel energized, try a sativa strain.

What You Will Need

  • Anywhere from 4-7 grams of cannabis (more if you want longer-lasting effects)

  • 8 ounces or 1 cup of cooking oil of your choice

  • Cannabis grinder

  • Nonstick baking sheet

  • Parchment paper

  • A medium pot

  • A strainer (cheesecloth works best)

  • An airtight glass container (mason jars work best)

  • A thermometer (optional)

How to Make Cannabis Infused Oil

  1. Preheat your oven to 240 degrees fahrenheit. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Grind your cannabis into small pieces. Make sure they aren’t small enough to pass through your strainer (this is why cheesecloth works best).

  3. Place your ground cannabis spread out evenly on your baking sheet and allow it to bake for 30 to 40 minutes.

  4. Allow your cannabis to cool.

  5. Add the cooking oil and your cannabis directly to your pot and allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for anywhere from 2 to 3 hours. Make sure the temperature does not reach 180 degrees. Keep in mind that the longer the mixture simmers, the more potent it will be. However, it will also taste more like cannabis the more you allow the mixture to heat. You may have to add some water during this step.

  6. Lastly, you should strain the mixture into your airtight jar. You can strain the mixture twice to ensure you get all of the small pieces of cannabis out of your finished product.
